Who it is for

Adults who benefit from a more practical complement to traditional employment support.

This programme is designed for adults who are unemployed or distant from the labour market and who benefit from an active, social and practical learning environment. The full 40-hour week can combine Football Abroad’s core curriculum with language learning, employment support, municipal services, individual work and work-placement elements.

The 40-hour structure is a commissioning framework, not a requirement that Football Abroad delivers every hour. Football Abroad can deliver approximately 20 hours per week and integrate that core with the municipality’s existing language, employment and social-support resources.
Learning outcomes

What participants should be able to do differently.

Build a working routine

Attend consistently, manage time, prepare for tasks and develop habits that resemble a real working week.

Make decisions with intention

Gather information, prioritise, act and review — on the pitch and in practical work situations.

Communicate professionally

Practise listening, concise instructions, feedback, collaboration, conflict handling and adapting to different people.

Leave with a route forward

Complete practical job-search work and finish with an individual plan towards employment, study, work placement, volunteering or coaching.

Curriculum

The programme skeleton.

The sequence below defines the core learning journey. Session examples, exercises and language are adapted to the cohort after commissioning.

Week 1

Routine, trust & starting point
Establish attendance, group standards, personal goals and an individual baseline. Introduce football as a learning environment rather than a performance test.

Week 2

Information & decision-making
Practise seeing the situation before acting. Transfer the same process to work tasks, priorities and everyday choices.

Week 3

Communication & feedback
Use team tasks to practise listening, explaining, asking questions, receiving feedback and handling disagreement.

Week 4

Planning & execution
Move from idea to plan: divide tasks, estimate time, assign roles, execute and review what actually happened.

Week 5

Leadership & responsibility
Lead parts of a football session or group task. Work with initiative, accountability and supporting other people.

Week 6

Workplace behaviour & employability
Connect reliability, communication and responsibility to workplace expectations. Build or improve CV, applications and job-search routines.

Week 7

Interviews, networking & practical challenge
Practise interview situations, explaining strengths, asking for opportunities and completing a practical group assignment under real constraints.

Week 8

Demonstrate, reflect & transition
Participants demonstrate learned behaviours in a practical setting, receive structured feedback and finish with an individual next-step plan.
